Connecticut Pols Continue Push For DC Memorial Honoring Black Soldiers In American Revolution
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Connecticut's U.S. senators were remindering Americans on Martin Luther King Jr. Day about an ongoing effort to honor black soldiers who fought in the American Revolution.
Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal cited federal passage of a resolution allowing the tribute to be built at Washington's National Mall, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidua reported.
Blumenthal said the black soldiers fought to liberate America even as their own rights and liberties were denied.

"These black soldiers had a dream just as Martin Luther King did, and that dream was liberty and freedom," Blumenthal said.
Blumenthal said millions in private donations must be raised over the next few years if the memorial is to become reality.
