State police Sgt. Shane Hassett said the pilot put out a small fire with an extinguisher and the plane landed without incident. He said Bradley was the plane's intended destination.
"We have 37 passengers on board, about three hours of fuel. It looks like we'll be able to get on the ground," the pilot was heard saying. The pilot also asked air traffic controllers to roll fire trucks.
The pilot remained calm and landed successfully.
Fire trucks were readied for the commuter turbo propeller plane. The airline said passengers and crew were evacuated and were bused to the terminal.
No one was injured.
United and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating late Friday.
