Conn. Man With Gun Arrested At JFK Airport
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It's a dubious distinction for one Stamford, Conn. man.
The Transportation Security Administration says the man - whose name has not been released - became the first person of 2013 to be arrested for having a gun at a checkpoint at JFK Airport.
Agents found the loaded .45 caliber pistol when the Cancun-bound man's items were going through a metal detector Monday.
TSA Agents notified Port Authority Police, who arrested the man on a state weapons charge, and confiscated the pistol.
Weapons are not permitted in carry-on bags. Passengers can carry firearms in checked bags if they are properly packed and declared, the TSA said. Firearms must be unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked and ammunition must be packed separately. However, the TSA reminds passengers firearm possession laws vary by state and locality, and airlines may have their own policies regarding the transport of guns.
