NWS Confirms Tornado Touched Down In Southern New Jersey
MOUNT EPHRAIM, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The strong storms that tore through the Tri-State Area on Tuesday were powerful enough to spawn a twister.
The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in southern New Jersey around 6:30 Tuesday evening.
The weather service said the twister was an EF0, the lowest classification for tornadoes.
Tuesday's twister traveled on the ground in Mount Ephraim for about 120 yards and reached maximum winds of 70 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
There were reports of a tree down and some roof damage to homes in the area.
The last confirmed tornado to hit New Jersey was in Millstone last August.
