WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports

WCBS 880's Sophia Hall was in the middle of the action on the boardwalk, where hundreds marched dressed as ghosts, goblins, pumpkins and angels.

One participant described her costume as that of a punk bumble bee, featuring "ripped-up tights" and "a lot of eye-liner."

One creative girl even dressed up as a washing machine.

Organizers said they wanted to attract visitors to Coney Island and keep events going throughout the year -- not just in the summer months.

Hall spoke to one parent who was enthused about the idea.

"It's very nice, something positive for everybody to get together. I think it's a wonderful thing," she said.
