Con Ed Asks Some Brooklyn Residents To Turn Air Conditioners Off
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Tuesday was a scorcher throughout the Tri-State Area, but Con Edison advised some Brooklyn residents to keep their air conditioners turned off.
Con Ed announced Tuesday afternoon that it needs to repair some equipment in Brooklyn, and has reduced voltage by 8 percent in Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Heights, Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Old Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, and Georgetown.
Con Edison Calls For Conservation In Brooklyn
Those affected were asked not to use their air conditions, washers, dryers, or other energy-intensive equipment. Residents were also advised to turn off lights and televisions when not needed until the equipment problems were fixed.
The call to keep air conditioners turned off did not come at an especially convenient time, as the city had been in the midst of a heat wave that led temperatures to top out at 91 degrees Tuesday.
Con Edison also reduced voltage in Coney Island, Sea Gate, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Sheepshead Bay, but residents of those neighborhoods were not asked to conserve.
Customers were told to report outages or check service restoration status by going to ConEd.com or calling (800) 775-CONED. Anyone reporting an outage was asked to have their Con Edison account number available, and note whether their neighbors have lost power.
