Coming NJ TRANSIT Rail Fare Hike Based On Destination

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Fares are going up for some commuters, NJ TRANSIT officials announced Wednesday.

The increase, which will take effect on March 1, will not impact everyone on the Pascack Valley, Bergen and Main Lines. Fares are only going up for those traveling to the northernmost station and for those on the Port Jervis Line.

On the Main/Bergen County Lines, fares only go up for those traveling to Ho-Ho-Kus or north. On the Pascack Valley Line, the increase affects those going to Emerson or north.

Commuters in Hoboken said they are annoyed at the rising cost of getting around

"Great. On top of everything else," one man told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

"Everything goes up, but the salary doesn't go up. so it's a burden on me and my family."

"They need to make the train more reliable before they charge more money to ride on it everyday."

NJ TRANSIT officials note that these trains are run by Metro-North Railroad and the increases are for Metro-North.

Fare increases will affect passengers traveling to the following stations:

Main/Bergen Co. Line:
Suffern
Mahwah
Ramsey Rt. 17
Woodcliff Lake
Ramsey Main Street
Allendale
Waldwick
Ho-Ho-Kus
Ridgewood (Off-peak roundtrip fare only)
Glen Rock (Off-peak roundtrip fare only)

Pascack Valley Line:
Montvale
Park Ridge
Hillsdale
Westwood
Emerson
Oradell (Off-peak roundtrip fare only)

At some stations, not all ticket types including one-ways and 10-trip tickets are affected. No other NJ TRANSIT fares will change.
