Colorful Hats March Down Fifth Avenue This Easter
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- It was a warm and wonderful afternoon in Manhattan to celebrate Easter, and that meant it was a perfect day to stroll down Fifth Avenue in your Easter bonnet for the annual Easter parade, CBS 2's Magee Hickey reports.
The inspiration for Linda Foreman's chapeau came from Lady Gaga herself.
"When I saw the Grammy Awards, when she came out of the Easter egg, right away I said 'Easter bonnet'," she said.
Barry Brown's the leader of his troupe of fairy tale hatmakers. There's Goldilocks and the three bears, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, and three very little pigs with a big bad wolf on top.
Asked how long it took him to make his Little Mermaid hat, "I don't know. The last few weeks. Can't put it together all at once with all that glitter," he said.
Then there were truly hairy hat-wearers marching along, like Beau the Siberian Husky Therapy Dog and his partner, Bambi, a bunny ear-wearing Maltese hidden by flowers in an Easter basket.
Beau's owner Caroline Loevner explained how she kept the pooch in line.
"We work with a trainer. Beau does model shoots. He's accustomed to being around people," she said.
And there was a dragon-fly bird hat celebrating something we've all been waiting for.
"The theme of my hat today is sort of the theme of this Easter parade and the celebration of spring," said Michelle Clough, hat designer.
The Easter parade got underway on Fifth Avenue around 10 a.m. and wrapped up by 4 p.m.
