Power Restored To Co-Op City After Elderly Woman Collapsed, Died Climbing Stairs To Apartment During Outage
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Power is being restored to Co-Op City Saturday after the outage led to the death of an elderly resident.
According to authorities, 73-year-old Ada Longman was hiking up the stairs to her 19th-floor apartment while she was on oxygen when she collapsed and died.
This happened after residents say a fire involving a transformer broke out in the basement Friday morning, leaving nearly 10,000 people in the area without electricity.
Longman's daughter told CBS2's Cory James how she wants her mom to be remembered.
"Kind, strong and loving," she said.
She says the family is dealing with a lot after this unexpected loss.
Co-Op City Police say electricity in all buildings has been fully restored.
The investigation is ongoing.
