Clinton Foundation Moving Out Of Harlem Offices To New Digs In Financial District
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - They're movin' on out.
Well, not completely.
Former President Bill Clinton is slimming down his presence in Harlem.
The president has had his office on the top floor of 55 West 125th Street in Harlem for nearly 10 years.
The General Services Administration says Clinton will continue to keep his office there. In November, Clinton signed another 10-year lease on the space.
However, his nonprofit William J. Clinton Foundation will relocate to 77 Water Street, in the heart of the Financial District. It is expected to expand, and pay cheaper rent.
No word yet on how Clinton will divide his time between the spaces.
Clinton initially didn't intend to house his offices in Harlem. He originally planned to rent an office in the heart of Midtown. At the time, though, the move was considered controversial due to the high rent taxpayers would have to foot for the 56th floor of the Carnegie Hall Tower.
The foundation's rent is not paid for by taxpayers, but by the organization itself.
