City Opens New Veterans Career Center On Madison Avenue
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The city is offering a helping hand to its veterans as they transition into the civilian workforce.
The new Workforce1 Veterans Career Center, which is staffed entirely by veterans for veterans, opened Tuesday in Manhattan.

The center will offer intensive career services and training opportunities to veterans and their spouses, work with employers committed to hiring veterans, and help connect more veterans to stable and meaningful jobs.
"America's veterans have put their lives on the line to uphold the freedoms that make our nation the world's greatest," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "We can never fully repay the debt we owe them, but we can make sure they have the support they need when they return to civilian life, including the jobs they deserve."
The mayor estimates there are currently 8,600 unemployed veterans in New York City.
"These heroes face distinct challenges reentering the workforce after service, but they also have skills and training that many others don't," Bloomberg said.
The center hopes to find jobs for more than 1,200 veterans this year.
The center is located at 60 Madison Avenue. There are 15 Workforce1 Career Centers located throughout the five boroughs.
