City Officials Call On NYPD To Investigate Murders Equally Across All Boroughs
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Elected officials from Brooklyn joined with the families of murder victims to call on the NYPD to close what they said are disparities in investigating and closing homicide cases citywide.
As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, City Councilman Jumaane Williams said there's a lack of police efforts investigating homicides in the outer boroughs.
Williams said outer borough homicide cases have fewer detectives assigned to them than do killings in Manhattan.

"I hope that within precincts, particularly ones that have high homicides, that they have more detectives that are dedicated just to homicide," the councilman said.
The reason for pointing it out "is not to beat up on an administration, it is to point out a problem," said Williams.
Williams said the NYPD is looking into it.
For people like Dolene John, whose son Kellan was killed on her Brooklyn doorstep, extra homicide detectives can't be assigned fast enough.
"But until this person is brought to justice, then I could get peace. Then I could get peace. He is still at large and I think the police system is doing nothing because my son was a black American," she said.
Donna Rayside's son Dustin was killed in Brooklyn early last year and the suspect remains at large.
"Finding my son's killer or killers and bringing them to justice would be much more a reality if resources are allocated to doing just that," she said.
New city Public Advocate Letitia James and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams were also at the City Hall event.
