City, Feds Launch Ad Campaign For National Preparedness Month
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New York City and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have launched a new ad campaign urging families to make a disaster preparedness plan.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, the city is trying humor in a very serious effort to make sure residents are ready in case of an emergency.
The print, radio and TV ad campaign is part of National Preparedness Month.

"What they really are saying is, what you may think is a plan is not a plan," said Joe Bruno, commissioner of the city's Office of Emergency Management.

FEMA administrator Craig Fugate, speaking in Staten Island Wednesday, said six in 10 families do not have a disaster preparedness plan.
"It's a state of mind. Have you thought about what you would need to do to protect yourself and your family. And I always start with, 'what would you do if the phones were out?'" he said.
"On top of putting together a Go Bag and emergency supply kit, it is critical that families discuss their emergency plans together, and to think through the necessary steps to take during and after an emergency," Bruno said in a statement.
This year, the agency is urging parents to involve kids in the planning.
