City Council Examines Veterans' Education In NYC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Nearly 3,000 veterans attend the City University of New York -- a 57 percent increase from three years ago.
The figure was released Wednesday as City Council members prepared to delve into the role CUNY plays in veterans' lives.
Officials said a number of new programs are designed to ease the transition of veterans returning to civilian life.
Administrators, faculty and students are scheduled to appear at the council hearing.
Issues include rising tuition rates and costs of living, as well as reduced funding for programs.
The hearing leaders are council members Ydanis Rodriguez, who chairs the Higher Education Committee, and Mathieu Eugene, who chairs the Veterans Committee.
