Christie: Unemployment Remark 'Ill-Advised'
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Republican Gov. Chris Christie has added his voice to the chorus of people who believe a GOP leader was wrong to denounce New Jersey's unemployed.
Christie said remarks by Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce "ill-advised."
DeCroce told business leaders this week that a resident collecting $550 a week in unemployment benefits has little incentive to look for work.
His remarks touched off a firestorm of name-calling by Republicans and Democrats.
On Thursday, Christie called for a truce, asking that legislative leaders embrace the spirit of Christmas.
Earlier, New Jersey AFL-CIO leader Charles Wowkanech called DeCroce's comments were "an unprovoked insult to people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own."
