Christie Set To Appear At 3 Rallies With Conn. Candidate McMahon
WATERBURY, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is planning to jump into Connecticut politics, appearing Monday at three rallies for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon.
Christie, also a Republican, was set to appear with McMahon Monday at rallies in Stamford, Waterbury and Glastonbury.
McMahon's campaign has said Christie plans to talk about why "strong, independent voices" like McMahon's are needed in Washington.
McMahon is in a close race against U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) They are vying for the seat held by the retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.)
Also on Monday, McMahon is kicking off another weeklong jobs tour. She is scheduled to visit nearly 20 small businesses to hear about the challenges owners, managers and employees face.
Murphy was elected to the U.S House in 2006, after serving in the Connecticut state House of Representatives and Senate.
McMahon is the former chief executive officer of World Wrestling Entertainment. She ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) for Chris Dodd's old Senate in 2010.
Last week, a UConn/Hartford Courant poll showed Murphy leading McMahon by six points, 44-38 percent. However, poll director Jennifer Dineen said, essentially, Murphy was still within the four point margin of error.
Linda McMahon's campaign quickly responded to the poll, complaining that the sampling was slanted to favor Murphy.
