Christie Orders Flags Flown At Half-Staff To Honor NJ Marine Killed In Afghanistan
NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Flags will fly at half-staff in New Jersey today to honor a fallen Marine from Bergen County.
Gov. Chris Christie ordered the remembrance for Lance Cpl. Osbrany Montes De Oca of North Arlington. The 20-year-old was killed by a sniper in Afghanistan on Feb. 10.
Dozens lined the street to pay tribute to Montes De Oca at his funeral on Monday.
He has two brothers who are also Marines. Both were given the option to leave the battlefield, but have chosen to return to combat.
"It just says a lot about a Marine's character," said fellow Marine Gunnery Sgt. Harold McLean. "You mourn your loss, but at the end of the day, you want to carry on your mission."
Montes De Oca enlisted shortly after graduating high school in 2010.
