Now, former Rep. Chris Shays is said to be eyeing a run for the U.S. Senate and the seat currently held by retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman.

Political professor Gary Rose says Shays has a lot going for him, saying his moderate positions have widespread appeal.

Shays' big problem, says Rose, is if Linda McMahon, who lost to current Sen. Richard Blumenthal, decides to run again. A primary challenge by McMahon could be tough.

"I think that Shays would have a more difficult time winning the nomination against such a formidable individual as Linda," Rose said.

But recent polls show Chris Shays up there.

Meanwhile, McMahon is busy going around the state reforming her base.

"Normally, when people do that, they're obviously laying the groundwork to start putting delegates together for the convention," said Rose.
