Children Affected By Superstorm Sandy To Participate In Rutgers' Spring Football Game
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The annual Scarlet-White spring football game at High Point Solutions Stadium will have a very special ending this year, the Rutgers' football program announced on Thursday.
The game, which will be held on April 27, will allow 22 children -- from sixth grade to eighth grade -- affected by Superstorm Sandy to participate in the final five minutes of the contest.
Youngsters are encouraged to send in a short essay or a collection of photos to the Rutgers' football Facebook page. Kids will be chosen from that pool.
The children taking part in the game will spend the second half on the sidelines before coming in for the final minutes.
The attendees at High Point Solutions Stadium that day will have the opportunity to donate $5 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
The Rutgers players will represent the state proudly on their jerseys. 90 towns across New Jersey that were affected by the storm will be displayed on players' jerseys. Following the game, head coach Kyle Flood will sign each jersey and donate them to the respective towns.
Kickoff for the spring game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
