Child Shot As Chaos Unfolds On Palisade Avenue In Yonkers
YONKERS (CBSNewYork) -- There was chaos in Getty Square on Friday afternoon.
Dozens of teens were fighting in the middle of busy, store-lined Palisade Avenue around 4 p.m., witnesses said.
"Everything was crazy," Dare Pachino told CBS 2's Dave Carlin.
Bystanders said that they heard a single gunshot as the mayhem unfolded.
"They were ages 15 to 19. All boys. Cars would pass by and they would jump over the cars. It was insane," Bianca Guerrero said. "And then the shooting happened. The dad picked her up immediately off the floor and ran with her."
The gunshot struck a 3-year-old girl in the arm, police said. She was taken to Jacobi Trauma Center in the Bronx with non-life threatening injuries, according to investigators.
A pair of suspects were being questioned by the police on Friday night.
"We aren't going to call them suspects right now but we do have two people of interest in custody," Yonkers Police Det. Lt. Joseph Monaco said.
