SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 3-year-old girl in a stroller was struck and injured by a vehicle Monday afternoon on Long Island, and authorities said the driver fled from the scene.

The driver was later apprehended, Suffolk County police said.

Scott Shea, 30, was driving a 2005 Jeep north on William Floyd Parkway, south of Montauk Highway, when his vehicle struck the stroller around 3:45 p.m., police alleged.

The girl was taken by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, where she was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries late Monday, police said.

Shea, of Middle Island, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, police said. He was to be held overnight at the Suffolk County police Seventh Precinct, and was to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
