Charred Remains Found Inside Calif. Cabin Believed To Be Christopher Dorner
BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Like much of the country, New Yorkers are waiting to hear if a manhunt for a former Los Angeles police officer suspected of going on a killing spree ended Tuesday at a mountain cabin in California.
The search for Christopher Dorner, the most wanted man in America over the last week, apparently took refuge last Thursday, four days after beginning a deadly rampage that would claim four lives.
He never emerged from the ruins and hours later, investigators found charred human remains in the burned out cabin's debris, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office, which said forensic techniques would be used to try to identify the body, CBS News reported.
"We have reason to believe that it is him,'' San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cynthia Bachman said.
Dorner, 33, had said in a lengthy rant police believe he posted on Facebook that he expected to die in one final, violent confrontation with police, and if it was him in the cabin that's just what happened.
