Charges Dropped Against Rockville Centre Man Accused Of Laughing Too Loudly
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man is getting the last laugh.
A judge has dropped charges against Robert Schiavelli who was ticketed earlier this year for laughing too loudly in his own home.
The 41-year-old Rockville Centre man was issued two summonses for disturbing the peace after police responded to his home on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 after a neighbor complained of hearing his laugh across the driveway.
Schiavelli, who has neurological problems, claims the neighbor often taunts him due to his disability and he learned to deal with it by laughing him off.
Schiavelli said he doesn't understand why his neighbor filed charges to begin with.
"Why did they have to target me for?" Schiavelli asked. "Why couldn't they stop annoying me in the first place?"
He could have faced up to 30 days in jail and $500 in fines if convicted.
