Chandler Says Knicks Need To 'Man Up'; Where's Baron?
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- It seems with each Knicks loss, the drum for Mike D'Antoni's job beats with renewed vigor.
After Saturday's 97-84 loss to the Houston Rockets, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler deflected some of the heat from their head coach -- and placed it squarely on the shoulders of their teammates.
"We have to prepare ourselves better as individuals," Stoudemire said. "Coaches give the game plan. We have to be ready to execute the game plan. If we're not ready to execute the game plan, we're not helping our teammates."
The Knicks (7-13) have lost nine out of their last 10 games.
"We have to learn to comprehend and learn from our mistakes," said Stoudemire, "and right now we're not doing that."
Baron Davis (back) practiced with the team last week but wasn't deemed ready for in-game minutes. According to the New York Post, some teammates were "surprised" that Davis didn't make his debut on the team's road trip.
Carmelo Anthony, meanwhile, has been on the bench with thumb, wrist and ankle injuries.
Chandler said after Saturday's loss that his teammates have to stop with the excuses and "man up."
"We all have to look at ourselves and figure what we can do better to help the team," he said. "Everybody's banged up. It's times like this you have to dig deep. It's about the team that wants it more."
