Central Park Zoo Welcomes 1-Year-Old Red Panda

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Can you say cute?

You now have one more reason to go to the Central Park Zoo thanks to Biru, a 1-year-old red panda.

Red pandas are endangered due to habitat loss caused by deforestation for timber, fuel, and agricultural use. It is estimated that fewer than 2,500 remain in the wild.

Biru now hangs out with his friend Amaya in the Temperate Territory at the zoo.

You can visit Biru everyday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April through October, and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. November through April.

General Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $7 for children 3 to 12, and free for children younger than 3.

Biru is the latest baby to join the New York City zoo crew. The Bronx Zoo has seen a bit of a baby boom this year.

Three lions celebrated their first birthday in May, Terri, the first zebra born at the zoo since 2003, made her public debut, and last December, Hoover, the first baby aardvark ever birthed at the Bronx Zoo, came out for his close-up.
