Central Islip Man Charged In Rush Hour Road Rage Incident On L.I.E.
HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Suffolk County police have arrested a Central Islip man in a morning rush hour road rage incident.
According to police, Jason Parker, 25, assaulted another driver and smashed the man's car windows with a bat last Wednesday.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on April 10 near exit 57 of the Long Island Expressway.
Police said the victim noticed the BMW driven by Parker was tailgating him. When the driver took Exit 62, police said Parker followed and then cut him off.
That incident caused a minor accident between two uninvolved cars, police said.
Parker then got out of his car with a bat and smashed the driver's windshield and two driver's side windows. He also punched the driver several times in the face, police said.
Parker got back in his car and took off, police said. The victim and another witness were able to write down his license plate number and the witness also took a cell phone photo of Parker, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.
Parker was arrested on Sunday and charged with criminal mischief, assault and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Parker will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 15.
