CBS Celebrates 60th Anniversary Of Iconic 'Eye' Logo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Call it an "eye-con."
On Oct. 20th, 2011, CBS will be celebrating the 60th birthday of its Eye logo.
The logo first looked out at audiences during station breaks on Saturday, Oct. 20, 1951.
"The CBS Eye is an enduring asset of our company and a major source of pride for all of us," said Leslie Moonves, President and CEO of CBS Corporation.
To celebrate the anniversary, CBS.com will be switching out its homepage Eye with the original logo. Clicking on it will bring users to a Charles Osgood story about the Eye's history. The original logo will also appear on CBSNews.com.
Original, the Eye's iris was a camera lens, and the eye opened and shut. Over the years, the color and size of the Eye has varied, but overall the logo has not changed.
"It is a corporate logo that is known and respected all around the world, and continues to be a fitting symbol of CBS's proud history and leadership," Moonves said.
