Caught On Video: Man Stripped, Restrained At 7-Eleven Over Snickers Bar
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An amateur video has gone viral, showing a man suspected of stealing a Snickers bar being stripped down to his underwear by three 7-Eleven clerks near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The man – David Golson, 29, of the Bronx – was headed out of the 7-Eleven at 395 Flatbush Extension around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when he was confronted by the two clerks, the New York Post reported.
A video posted on the Web site WorldStarHipHop showed two clerks grabbing Golson as he apparently tried to exit, and dragging him back in the door as he protested: "I don't have nothing else! I don't have nothing else! Relax, man! What are you fighting me for?"
The video showed Golson continuing to protest as a small crowd gathered to watch, and the clerks forced his jacket and shirt off.
The video then cut to the scene apparently a short time later, by which point Golson's pants were around his ankles. One clerk was seen restraining Golson with his arms around the man's waist, while the other pulled up Golson's boxer shorts from the back.
As the scuffle continued, the videographer was heard complaining to the 7-Eleven clerks: "We are shutting this store down. You'd better not come over here. It's on camera. You're attacking somebody. You're attacking him."
The videographer then urged someone to call police, as Golson and the clerks who were restraining him moved around the store – knocking down a display shelf and several packages of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
Police did eventually come, and arrested Golson on charges of robbery, assault, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property, the New York Post reported. He had an outstanding warrant at the time, the newspaper reported.
The workers were not arrested or charged, police told the Post, because Golson tried to attack them and knock over shelves when they first confronted him in the time before the videographers began shooting.
A 7-Eleven spokeswoman told the newspaper she was "horrified" by the video, and that one employee was fired while two others must retake a training course.
