Cat Remains Missing After Escaping Carrier At JFK Airport
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Another cat has gone missing at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The 4-year-old feline named Xiaohwa escaped her carrier last Thursday as she was to board a flight to Taiwan to be reunited with her owner, 1010 WINS reported.
Iris Yu left for the country 10 months ago and a friend was bringing the tabby to her.
Xiaohwa apparently bolted from her crate as a Transportation Security Administration was inspecting the carrier at Terminal 4.
Yu's boyfriend is concerned because the cat has the feline version of HIV and fears Xiaohwa won't survive long without the proper care.
In a statement, the TSA insisted that its agents inspected the carrier properly and reminded passengers that they're responsible for their pets throughout the screening process.
The cat remains missing.
This is not the first time an animal has vanished at the airport.
In 2006, a prize-winning show dog went missing at JFK and was never found.
Last year, a cat named Jack was found after 61 days, but was so malnourished he eventually had to be euthanized.
