Carteret Man Sentenced To 18 Years In Prison For 2011 Fatal Shooting
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A central New Jersey man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a teenage boy nearly three years ago.
Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says Jorge Borrero of Carteret must serve about 16 years before he becomes eligible for parole. He also will have to serve five years of supervised release once he's freed from prison.
The 21-year-old Borrero had pleaded guilty last November to aggravated manslaughter and weapons offenses stemming from the Feb. 16, 2011 shooting of Malcolm Harvey, a 17-year-old Carteret resident who lived in the same neighborhood as Borrero.
A police investigation determined that Borrero shot the teen on Pershing Avenue. Harvey was able to walk toward a nearby library, where he fell on the sidewalk. Harvey was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he died.
A motive for the shooting was not disclosed.
