Carmelo Anthony On 'Letterman': NYC Is Tops, Knicks Ready For 'Battle'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Carmelo Anthony sat on the "Late Show" couch Thursday and proudly explained to host David Letterman precisely why he wanted a trade to New York.
"I think the first thing is it's the best city in the world," he said.
Carmelo's one-line ode to the Big Apple drew plenty of applause from the Ed Sullivan Theater crowd, who are poised to see Knicks' postseason action in NYC for the first time since 2004.
"I'm excited. I'm excited, man," Anthony said. "Just looking back at the history of the whole New York-Boston (rivalry), not just in basketball but in life in general."
Carmelo was knocked around a bit the last time he faced the Celtics. He doesn't see this series being any different.
"It's going to be a battle. It's going to be a battle, I can tell you that," he said. "Nothing more, nothing less. It's going to be a battle."
Letterman spoke for Knicks fans everywhere when he concluded the interview, saying, "It's exciting to have a bit of a team here now."
It sure is. Game 1 tips off Sunday night in Boston.
