Who Is Carli Lloyd? 5 Facts About U.S. Soccer's World Cup Hero

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Carli Lloyd has become a household name after leading the U.S. to its third Women's World Cup title and first since 1999.

But she's no newcomer to Team USA or the international stage. Here are five facts you'll want to know at the water cooler:

She's a Jersey girl: Lloyd hails from Delran Township. She stayed close to home after high school, playing soccer at Rutgers University from 2001–04. (Fun fact: Lloyd's coach at RU was Glenn Crooks, a current CBS New York columnist and part of NYCFC's radio play-by-play team on WFAN.) U.S. teammates Christie Rampone (Point Pleasant) and Heather O'Reilly (East Brunswick) are also from the Garden State.

She's clutch: In addition to her heroics in the 2015 Women's World Cup (six goals, all in knockout games, including three in the finals), Lloyd also scored the game-winners in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold-medal matches against Brazil and Japan, respectively.

She gives back: Lloyd was on hand in July 2012 to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity in New Castle County, Delaware.

She roots for the Eagles: Sorry, Jets and Giants. Despite being a New Jerseyan, Lloyd is a fan of the NFL's Eagles. The reason: Delran is about 15 miles from Philadelphia.

She's not done: Lloyd, 32, told "CBS This Morning" on Monday that she expects to be a part of a U.S. roster that will be defending its World Cup title in 2019. "One year at a time, though," she said.
