Car Slams Into Yonkers Firehouse; Driver Killed
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A motorist was killed Sunday afternoon when he slammed into the wall of a firehouse in Yonkers.
The accident happened just after 3 p.m. at Fire Station 14, at 2187 Central Park Ave. in Yonkers, police said.
Police said the dark Honda sedan slammed into what looked like a small carport on the side of the firehouse, and the driver of the car was confirmed dead, 1010 WINS' Gene Michaels reported.

"At first I thought it might have been fireworks, and then it wound up that it was the accident," a witness, Sheri, told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.
Police told CBS 2 the vehicle first plowed into a pole, then slammed into the wall of the fire station.
A witness, Luciano, was at work at his restaurant across the street when the accident happened.
"I was talking to a customer, and then all of a sudden, I heard a big impact. It sounded like a bomb or something, you know?" he said. "And I looked outside, and I saw the car like that. It was so fast that it was really unbelievable. And we saw the body outside the car on the sidewalk there."
Luciano told 1010 WINS' Michaels he did not hear any brakes.
"The only thing that I heard was the impact, and I think when I heard the impact was when he hit the wall," he said.
The driver was ejected from the car. He had no passengers, and no one inside the firehouse was injured, police said.

Witness Pattie Savone said she has seen a lot of speeding and congestion on Central Park Avenue.
"I've seen many accidents on Central (Park) Avenue in the past 28 years that we've had the restaurant, but this by far the worst that's ever happened," she said.
Central Park Avenue was closed in both directions at the scene after the accident, causing a traffic nightmare.
