Car Slams Into Garage, Takes Down Wall In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are investigating how the driver of a truck wound up crashing through the wall of a garage in Wesport, Conn. Thursday.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Cunningham Place, the Westport Fire Department said.

Photos from the scene of the accident show the truck had knocked an entire wall down, compromising the structural integrity of the garage.

According to fire officials, the driver was the only one inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. That person was unharmed.

Firefighters were able to stabilize the garage so that a tow truck could pull the vehicle from the damaged garage without causing a full collapse of the structure, fire officials said.

An official from the Wesport Building Department was called to the scene and deemed the garage unusable.

The Westport Fire Department said that residents should call the fire department to help asses the damage and structural stability whenever a building is compromised.
