Cannons To Ring Out At Fort Hamilton Wednesday For Fleet Week
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some Brooklyn can expect to hear cannons ring out this week, as Fleet Week kicks off.
Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Fort Hamilton in southern Brooklyn will conduct a ceremonial cannon salute to the ships coming in for Fleet Week, police said.
The cannons will be fired from the Fort Hamilton Bluff, overlooking the on-ramp to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the Belt Parkway, as well as New York Harbor.
Close to 1,500 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will head to the city for Fleet Week, from Wednesday through Tuesday of next week.
This year marks the 27th anniversary of Fleet Week New York.
The weeklong celebration honoring the sea services will feature exhibits and concerts open to all.
