Callahan Breaks Thumb; Rangers Captain To Miss 3-4 Weeks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Just when it looked like the Rangers were beginning to get something going, they lose one of their most indispensable players for an extended period of time.
Captain Ryan Callahan will miss three to four weeks after breaking his thumb against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night, general manager Glen Sather announced Thursday,
Callahan scored a goal during the Rangers' 2-0 win, but at some point suffered the injury while blocking a shot. He has three goals, eight blocked shots and a minus-5 rating in five games this season.
Darroll Powe was called up from AHL Hartford to fill the vacant roster spot. Powe had a goal in four games for the Wolf Pack. Sather also announced that goaltender Jason Missiaen was called up and Cam Talbot was assigned to Hartford.
The Rangers are off to a 2-4-0 start due in part to a grueling nine-game road trip to open the season while renovations at Madison Square Garden are concluded.
The Blueshirts continue their odyssey Saturday in Newark against the Devils, and then will travel to Philadelphia and Detroit before returning home for their home opener on Oct. 28 against Montreal.
