'Call Me Maybe' Parody Rips Replacement Officials, Goes Viral
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's the song that just won't go away and the story that's not likely to go away any time soon.
"Call It Maybe," a parody of the Carly Rae Jepsen hit, "Call Me Maybe," takes Commissioner Roger Goodell to task for the growing furor over the NFL's replacement referees.
And -- surprise! -- it's gone viral.
The tune, set to still photos, had over 445,000 plays on YouTube as of Wednesday morning.
"I threw my wish in the well/Got a call from Roger Goodell/Wanna ref the NFL?/I said I'm on my way," parody writer Seth Haake crooned.
The hook: "Hey, I just met you/That play was crazy/What's his number?/I'll call it, maybe."
The NFL was already under fire for allowing replacement officials on the field. Players, fans and politicians have called for the league to bring back its locked-out referees after the controversial ending to Monday night's Seattle-Green Bay game.
