Rapper Busta Rhymes Says 'I'm Super Good' After Arrest On Assault Charges
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Brooklyn-born rapper Busta Rhymes is out of jail after being charged with assault after allegedly throwing a protein drink at a Manhattan gym employee.
The 43-year-old Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Rhymes and the worker had been involved in a dispute that escalated at Steel Gym on 23rd Street in Chelsea, a spokesman for the New York Police Department said.
The rapper allegedly threw a 17-ounce cardboard container of strawberry protein drink at the man, hitting him in the head, the spokesman said. The victim refused medical attention, CBS2 reported.
A lawyer for Rhymes, known for his songs "Gimme Some More'' and "Dangerous,'' told The Daily News he's confident Rhymes will beat the second degree assault charge.
Early Thursday morning, Rhymes posted on Instagram, "Thanks to everyone who helped expedite this evening for me. I'm good and we're back to the grind. Heading 2 the studio 2 turn the bull---- into GREATNESS. I'm super good."
Busta Rhymes was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Uniondale, Long Island.
