Children Injured When School Bus Overturns After Crash In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Several children were hurt when a mini school bus overturned following a collision in Brooklyn Tuesday.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m., when the mini bus taking children home from St. Frances of Paola School in Williamsburg struck another vehicle near Bay Ridge and 10th Avenues in Dyker Heights. The collision caused the bus to flip onto its side.
4-year-old Terrence Mason was all smiles several hours after the terrifying ride home. His dad, who shares his name, couldn't have been more relieved.
"I gave him a big hug," he told CBS2's Hazel Sanchez. "Kissed him, happy to see my son all right. That's my life right here."
The elder Terrence was shocked after seeing video of the accident scene, right in front of the Learning Experience Preschool where Serena Murray was working at the time.
"It's a horrible thing to see," she said. "Some of them looked a little shaken but they were all okay. I saw the firemen walking with them to the ambulances."
Police say it's still unclear who was at fault. Surprisingly, the children, bus driver, and matron were not seriously hurt. It's a fact Terrence's family is grateful for.
"It's a miracle," the elder Terrence said.
As for the younger Terrence, he was seemingly unaffected and ready to tackle another day. He says he'll be back on the bus for school on Wednesday.
