Bus Company In Turnpike Crash Has Spotty Safety Record
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- The company involved in last week's bus crash on the New Jersey Turnpike apparently has been under federal scrutiny.
According to a report by the federal Department of Transportation, Super Luxury Tours, which owns the bus in the fatal crash last Monday, has one of the worst driver safety records in the nation, reports WCBS 880's Levon Putney.
"You see flagrant violations – record-keeping, violations of log books, maintenance issues," American Bus Assocation CEO Peter Pantuso said. "The fact that they were on a watch list makes me think they shouldn't have been operating."

According to the report, Super Luxury Tours' 16 drivers were involved in four accidents, two of which involved injuries. Drivers were also cited multiple times for speeding and failing to obey traffic signals, and there were several occasions where drivers were unable to understand or answer basic commands in English.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration put out a release saying they've proposed installing electronic monitors on buses to gauge how long a driver has been behind the wheel.
The FMCSA released a statement saying they're investigating both the Turnpike crash and the tour bus crash in the Bronx.
A man who answered Super Luxury Tours' listed number said he was driving and could not give his attorney's number.
