Cops: Burglar Ransacks Bon Jovi's N.J. Waterfront Mansion
MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- He gives larceny a bad name.
Police have nabbed a burglar who allegedly broke into Jon Bon Jovi's home.
Investigators said Nicholas Tracy, 21, broke into three other homes, including Bon Jovi's $22 million estate, earlier this month. Police said the suspect stole $100,000 in jewelry from the rock star's home and around $500,000, mostly jewelry, during his spree.
Police said they caught Tracy red handed, hiding in a bathroom inside one of his targets in the ritzy, waterfront oasis along Red Bank's Navesink River.
Even Bon Jovi's round-the clock-security, including his hidden cameras, were no match.
"I've never actually seen him, so I don't think he's there very much," said Christy Hatzfeld, Bon Jovi's neighbor.
Hatzfeld grew up next door to Bon Jovi, and is now house sitting for her parents. She remembered being robbed before.
"Several years ago, I was a teenager maybe, when I was laying by the pool, and actually robbed us while I was home, so it was a little scary," Hatzfeld said.
CBS 2's Derricke Dennis rang the intercom on the gate twice on Friday, but there was no sign of Bon Jovi, though he did find security, just beyond the gates, keeping a close eye.
"You would think that Bon Jovi's house would be buttoned up like Fort Knox," neighbor Noah Heinle said.
One neighbor said the thefts are a wake-up call for this expensive enclave.
"It can happen to anybody, even Bon Jovi," one person said.
Tracy's bail has been set at $100,000.
