Buccaneers Gathering Information After Da'Quan Bowers Arrested At LaGuardia
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers said that they're gathering information after defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrested after a handgun was found in his luggage at LaGuardia Airport.
Bowers was arraigned on Monday on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and posted $10,000 bond. Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said in a statement that the team won't comment until they have all the facts.
According to authorities, Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport as he was about to board a U.S. Airways flight to Raleigh, North Carolina. The .40-caliber weapon was found during a search of his carry-on bag.
Efforts to reach his attorney were unsuccessful.
Bowers' arrest "will be reviewed under our league policies," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement.
Queens County District Attorney spokeswoman Meris Campbell told the Tampa Bay Times that the 22-year-old turned the gun over to authorities voluntarily.
Bowers played college football for Clemson University and was selected by the Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL draft.
