Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza Now Redesigned For Safety
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - A safety redesign has added the equivalent of 1.5 acres of new pedestrian space to Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Transportation commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan said before the new crosswalks and traffic signal were installed "it was like dodge city. It was like the wild west."
She says it was a mess.
"People didn't know where to go," Sadik-Khan said. "It was almost like a game of Frogger where they would finally jump across the street."
Now, there's new traffic signal on the west side of the plaza, a concrete divider and five new pedestrian crosswalks.
Sadik-Khan said the changes will "make it much easier to cross the street and much shorter crossing distances."
Neighborhood residents are talking about holding green markets and concerts in the new and improved plaza.
