L&B Spumoni Gardens is a Bensonhurst landmark, and the perfect spot for pizza and ices on hot summer days. Go for their signature Grandma slice: a thin-crust Sicilian pie where the cheese and sauce switch places. Since slices here only cost $2.25, you'll have money left over for their spumoni.
When Best Pizza opened up in Williamsburg in 2010, it had to prove it deserved that name. And it did, with one of the best regular
thin-crust slices around. Though it's a little pricey at $3 or $3.50 a slice, the regular slices are topped with freshly made mozzarella and comes with a side of pickled vegetables, while the white pies have just the right amount of ricotta and caramelized onion.
Greenpoint's Paulie Gee's is another pizza joint that opened with fervor in 2010. Pizza here is available as personal pies, and you won't want to be sharing it. Highlights of the menu include the Hellboy which is a Berkshire sopressata picante pie topped with Mike's Hot Honey, the Greenpointer which is covered in argula, olive oil, and fresh lemon juice, and the Anise and Anephew which has braised fennel, Anisette Cream drizzle, and Berkshire guanciale. (Editor's note: Paulie Gee's recently introduced a vegan-friendly pizza, made with housemade vegan sausage and cashew ricotta).
When Roberta's in Bushwick opened in 2008, it was the star of the new Brooklyn pizza scene. Delicious pies made with fresh ingredients in a casual no-reservations spot. Stop by for their Speckenwolf--speck, mushrooms, and onion--or the current Duck Hunt which has duck prosciutto, sweet potatoes, and leeks.
