Brooklyn voters call on Congresswoman Yvette Clarke to support ceasefire in Gaza
NEW YORK -- Desperate for a ceasefire in Gaza, families in Brooklyn appealed to their U.S. representative on Tuesday.
Dozens showed up at the doorstep of Congresswoman Yvette Clarke's office in Flatbush asking that she sign a resolution.
This Election Day, as the war intensifies between Israel and Hamas, parents in the 9th Congressional District felt compelled to speak up for those who can't thousands of miles away.
"Palestine Is not an international issue that has nothing to do with us. It is an issue of humanity and right now there is a genocide unfolding," Bhavana Nancherla said.

Together with their children, families stood in front of Clarke's office, asking the congresswoman to sign a resolution urging the Biden administration to call for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of Israel's bombardment of Gaza.
"A lot of children are dying to the bombs that are being dropping in Palestine," Santiago Escudero said.
So far, 18 House members have signed on and families want Clarke to add her name, too.
"It does not take a leap of courage. It merely takes listening to some of these kids out here," one person said.
Even after CBS New York pressed her office, the congresswoman would not comment on if she supported a ceasefire.
Clarke did issue a statement earlier this month, writing, in part, "I wholeheartedly condemn the Hamas attacks on Israel and the escalating violence that has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent Palestinian women, children and men in Gaza."
"A lot of our representatives are putting out these general statements, but we actually need them to turn that into tangible action," Thanu Yakupitiyage said.
Just like families say, they are turning their words into action by protesting.
The House resolution also calls on the Biden administration to promptly send and facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza.
