Brooklyn Toddler's Teddy Bear Being Held For Cupcake Ransom
BROOKLYN, NY (WCBS 880) -- A Brooklyn mother wants proof of life before baking $10,000 worth of cupcakes to free her toddler's teddy bear that was "bear-napped" and is now being held for ransom.
A friendly little playground is where it all started a month ago when 2-year-old Donovan lost Mr. Bear, a blanket with a teddy bear's head.
"He must have dropped it," said Donovan's mom Susannah Bortner. Donovan says he misses Mr. Bear, so his mom put up signs around the neighborhood.
The signs say "Lost" at the top and have a picture of Mr. Bear, last seen on May 9. Bortner offered a reward of baked goods and good karma for Mr. Bear's safe return. A few days later, she got a response.
Next to her poster, someone put a picture of Mr. Bear, blindfolded with a ransom note. The captor demands $10,000 worth of gluten-free and peanut-free cupcakes.

The ransom note also says to come alone or the bear goes into the washer, no gentle cycle. Whatever the captor's intentions, Bortner says she wasn't intimidated.
"If I thought it was real and I had some evidence that Mr. Bear really was being held hostage, I would do my best to meet their demands," she said.
She says she'd gladly bake a truck load of cupcakes if it meant Mr. Bear's safe return to Donovan.
