Brooklyn Students Headed To Washington For Gettysburg Address Anniversary
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Some Brooklyn students were set to head to Washington, D.C., this week, to participate in the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported Monday evening, President Abraham Lincoln's iconic address still echoes with the help of the 40 students from Nazareth Regional High School in East Flatbush.

"We actually go the cottage and recite the speech in front of anyone. That'll be something work telling them when I come back the following day," one student said.
The students will recite the address from the steps of Lincoln's cottage in Washington. For Celia George, it is a chance to experience her history.
"You just get to see how African-Americans were treated, and their tribulations and their plights in America," she said. "It's unbelievable how we started with nothing, and we are where we are today."
U.S. Reps. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) and Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) have also invited the Nazareth Regional students to a meet-and-greet on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, along with a tour.
Lincoln recited the speech on Nov. 19, 1863, in Gettysburg, Pa., months after the pivotal Civil War battle nearby that left tens of thousands of men wounded, dead or missing.
A ceremony will also be held in Gettysburg Tuesday.
