Brooklyn Street Named In Honor Of Detective Wenjian Liu
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A portion of West 6th Street in Gravesend will forever honor one of the officers who was gunned down in Brooklyn last December.
Detective Wenjian Liu's widow talked emotionally about the sacrifices all law enforcement officers make on a daily basis.
"All law enforcement officers sacrifice their lives -- day in and day out," she said.
Now, a block of West 6th Street in Gravesend where the fallen officer had bought a house for his parents, is now known was Wenjian Liu Way, 1010 WINS Roger Stern reports.

"I can imagine young children standing there waiting for the light to change, looking up and saying, mommy, who is that," said Commissioner Bratton. "And I hope they are able to say -- he was a hero."
As CBS2's Meg Baker reported, Detective Liu's family stood strong and teary eyed on Saturday, holding a street sign, a memorial to the fallen officer.
Detective Liu's widow Pei Xa Chen translated for her father-in-law.
"I am extremely proud of my son. He will always be remembered," she said.
She thanked those who have supported their family since the deadly shooting.
"Law enforcement officers play a big role in our community. We need them to protect and make our city a better place," she said.
The renamed street is in detective Liu's neighborhood where his parents, wife, and neighbors will be able to remember him every day.
"We want this corner here to memorialize him, so young children walking by know a detective gave his life.
Men and women in blue saluted the fallen officer and were joined by his neighbors in paying their respects.
"It's a neighbor. Not only a cop protecting us, but a neighbor also," Barry Cohen said.
Liu's wife said she wears his badge close to her heart every day.
Liu's partner, Raphael Ramos will be honored with a street naming of his own at a later date.
