Search Continues For Suspects In Violent Brooklyn Robbery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A $4,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in a vicious attack and robbery in Brooklyn that was all caught on surveillance video.

It happened just after midnight Monday in Midwood.

Police said a 55-year-old man was walking on Avenue M when two men attacked him from behind. One of the suspects punched the victim in the head, knocked him down and continued to punch and kick him, police said.

Both suspects then went through the man's pockets and took his wallet before running off on Avenue M towards Ocean Parkway, police said.

The victim, identified by Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) as "Eli," was taken to the hospital where he was treated for scratches and contusions to his head, knees and hands.

"He had no clue. He was in absolute shock," Hikind said. "The way he was attacked physically – hit, hit again in his head — just an absolute horror."

The victim needed more than 70 stitches to his head.

Hikind met with the battered victim Monday then joined leaders of the area Shomrim at the crime scene to express concerns about the vicious crime.

"In our community, here in Midwood, that someone would be so maliciously, viciously attacked," Hikind said. "It's just like, what kind of people are capable of doing this?"

Late Monday night, police released additional surveillance images of the suspects.

Hikind said he and New York State Sen. Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) are offering a $3,000 reward while New York City Councilman David Greenfield also announced a $1,000 reward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or text tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
