Brooklyn Nets Unveil New Logos, Black And White Look
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Goodbye, New Jersey. Hello, Brooklyn.
It became official at midnight. With the Barclays Center nearing completion, the Nets are Brooklyn's team now. The re-branded franchise unveiled their new black and white look Monday morning, a stunning departure from the longtime red, white and blue.
The primary logo was designed by part-owner and rap mogul Jay-Z, according to the team's official website. The shield remained, in it "NETS" with a basketball underneath, containing a Brooklyn "B."
The secondary logo was rounded and again featured the "B" within a basketball. "BROOKLYN" was spelled out above and "NEW YORK" below.
Jay-Z, inspired by the subway signage of Dodgers-era New York City, "believes the design's boldness demonstrates confidence in the new direction," according to the Nets' website.
Last week with WFAN's Boomer & Carton, Nets CEO Brett Yormark announced the new look would be known to the public Monday. Well, the team kicked it off in a big way. They blanketed their online home with the simplistic color scheme, tweeted images of new team merchandise and unveiled the logos live on CNBC -- all before rush hour.
Center Brook Lopez and coach Avery Johnson later attended a ceremony on Flatbush Ave., across the street from the Barclays Center. T-shirts that read "Brownstone Ballers" and "The BRKLYN Way" were among a variety of apparel designs revealed.
The team also tweeted Monday that they will proudly wear "Brooklyn" on their home and away jerseys next season.
